Cryogenic (Subzero) Process

Cryogenic process is a continuation of the thermal process finished at room temperature. The purpose is to maintain martensitic transformation and decrease the amount of residual austenite as much as possible by falling to low temperatures. Cryogenic process is performed in specially designed processor-controlled cabins.
Advantages of this process are;
  • Minimum dimensional change during service.
  • Removing residual austenite and transforming the structure to martensite.
  • Settlement of superfine η-carbide (Eta-carbide) particles on martensimatrix homogeneously.
  • Arranging distribution of hardness.
  • Removing internal stresses/residual stresses (affects many mechanical properties)
  • Increases toughness, abrasion resistance and fatigue strength.
